What is Boomer Knowledge? We are a content and education creation company with the mission of collecting, consolidating and documenting baby boomer’s knowledge as they retire from the workforce, and turning that knowledge into consumable content for the next generation of leaders.

Why are we doing this? To ensure that this hard-won experience and knowledge are passed on to the next generation of leaders via multiple mediums, and to prepare new leaders better than any classroom can for the challenges of the business world. We collect and deliver knowledge from a variety of industries and perspectives through blogs, social media presence, webinars, facilitated conversations, podcasts, courses, and other forms of content on our website.


Multiple positions are available for an extended internship for the 2018/2019 school year. These positions are the perfect opportunity to gain real world experience in a dynamic flexible setting with Boomer Knowledge. You can work from the comfort of your home or the on-campus library. The location will be wherever you want it to be. The hours will be when you have time to work, which makes this the ideal opportunity for current college students looking to gain real world experience without a massive commitment pulling your main focus away from your studies.

Responsibilities: In this extended internship role, you will have the opportunity to see a startup online business function at work. What will you complete for Boomer Knowledge?

·       Help to create and publish content about assigned topics you find interesting- whether it be infographics, blog posts, scheduling podcast interviews and defining question cues, or making social media posts and landing pages, you will get a variety of experiences.

·       Work in many different capacities, depending on your weekly assignment, to gain real world experience in different business areas, and wear multiple hats to see what you enjoy.

·       Be part of the pilot test group with free access to course materials and content for topics like negotiation, supplier management, influence and persuasion, managing yourself, finding your direction, providing value, managing communications (email, phone calls, meetings), setting goals, and running effective meetings. You will have the opportunity to provide feedback, create feedback loops, and help shape the courses into more value-added forums.

·       Consult by analyzing needs and providing advice and guidance on the most effective strategies and methods to accomplish goals

·       Work on various other projects as determined by needs, with the autonomy of doing them on your own time, but with the guidance and coaching of a leader

As a valued member of the intern team at Boomer Knowledge, we have a focus on your personal and professional development. During your experience, you will interact with work directly with the founder and CEO, and have the opportunity to compete for one of (2) $500 scholarships at the end of your first semester!

Qualifications Required:

  • Candidates must be currently enrolled in school and working toward a degree in business, information systems, engineering, advertising, or English (other majors may be considered for the right candidate)
  • Must be able to work in fast-paced environment and be able to meet deadlines on a weekly basis
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, be detail oriented and have excellent analytical, organizational, leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Must be willing to give and receive feedback with a growth mindset, and a keen desire to learn and grow
  • Candidates must possess strong computer skills including experience with MS Word and Excel.


  • Knowledge of sales techniques. entrepreneurship, marketing and general business techniques
  • Previous part time work experience, and coursework completed at the collegiate level for at least one semester
  • Ability to work independently while dealing with conflicting goals and provide completed assignments
  • Possess a positive can-do attitude and spirit, with an internal drive for seeking knowledge and learning opportunities, creation of something larger than yourself, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a knack for having fun- if you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right!
  • Knowledge and/or experience with information technology, marketing, search engine optimization, google ad words etc.

This position is from November 2018 through May 2019. Quit Making Everything so Difficult!

A lot of daily challenges in business are because of unmanageable, over complicated, ineffective, or inefficient processes. These process create delays, challenges in communication, and ultimately cost the business a lot of money. Change management does NOT have to be overly complicated and difficult in order to be effective.

You want people to accept a new process and drive positive change??

Start with making it easier to follow the new updated process than it was to execute previously, while simultaneously addressing a pain point in the business.

Focusing on something that will make the business peoples lives easier will help to drive the change,  by leveraging their intrinsic motivation to make their lives easier. It also helps to make it easier to follow the new process, than it is to avoid the new process..

In other words… make sure your processes:

  • Adds VALUE for both the business, and the reports the data will be included in( if you don;t have this, you are dead in the water….
  • Is not over engineered or too cumbersome or difficult to follow
  • Does/ measures/ creates visibility where it is supposed to
  • Does not involve multiple layers of reviews and approvals unless absolutely necessary- Keep It Simple!
  • Does not create unnecessary bureaucracy- allowing too many areas to have a say in a process often makes accountability difficult to understand, which makes people uncomfortable, and often times creates more delays and bottlenecks.
  • Has very directly defined roles and responsibilities, especially for decision making
  • Has minimal hand-offs between groups
  • Empower your employees and teams to make decisions to keep things moving forward
  • Clearly defines limits on decision making authority and escalation routes if necessary

If you do all of this before you start thinking about the change management process of rolling out, training, and gaining acceptance for your new process, you will be light years ahead, and have a much higher chance of your change being accepted.

The biggest mistake you could possibly make in my opinion is to not get input and buy-in from the people that are actually going to be implementing the process, and making sure it is followed. Involve people early, and take their opinions into account. They often have the answers to extremely complicated problems already figured out, and just need to be LISTENED to, and to have their feedback requested.

Break the  business change initiatives into manageable pieces, and you will be well on your way to positive changes…

  1. Listen to your stakeholders
  2. Don’t make it harder than it needs to be- Use the KISS principle-(K.I.S.S.- Keep It Simple Stupid!)
  3. Believe in your abilities to influence.
  4. Create Value by addressing business pain points…

10x Your Influence, just by being a good person!

The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good. (author unknown)

Going back to this quote, and living it, are the keys to becoming one of the most liked people in your office and increasing your influence. 2 simple ways to do this.

  1. Ask people questions about themselves, and genuinely listen to their responses and show interest in them.
  2. Go out of your way to help other people as a your modus operandi, and expect absolutely nothing in return!

Do these 2 things and you will 10X your influence naturally…

Why is this? It is because two of the universal principles of influence are being leveraged. Liking and Reciprocity. People LIKE people who allow them to talk about themselves and truly listen. They also like people that do nice things for them. Simple I know, but it is true… Think about people you really like… Now think about if they listen to you, and randomly do nice things for you??? They probably do, and that is part of why you like them so much! 😊 People that like you are more likely to help you out when you are trying to get something approved, or get a project completed.

People also naturally feel inclined to reciprocate if you do something for them. If you go out of your way to smile, hold the door for people, print something off, take notes in a meeting, provide information, do research etc, people will naturally want to help you out when you need to get something done. Keep in mind, you cannot be disingenuous with this! People see right through you if you are doing stuff for them, with the expectation that you will get something in return. You have to genuinely do things for people to help them out, because you want to! I know, it seems ridiculously easy. This shouldn’t be hard, but people are inherently selfish!

You are helping people NOT because you expect reciprocity in the future, but because you genuinely want to make other people’s lives easier! Karma comes back around, and eventually this will make your life easier… Also, it will make your day much happier and more pleasant. Trust me!

One last thing to realize and remember. Everyone in the workplace has challenges, problems and issues they are dealing with both inside and outside the office. Realize that you do not know now, nor will you ever know, what everyone around you is dealing with…

Spreading happiness, smiles, and joy is just as easy as spreading gossip, negativity, and complaints.

The CHOICE is yours to make. I promise you that if you spread joy and do things for other people, people will like you more, you will be happier, and you will get more done!






Father’s Day BOOM

What better way to kick off the blog’s initial content then with baby boomer knowledge straight from the old man himself… My Pops, and on Father’s Day no less. Thanks for everything dad, and happy fathers day to the man that has taught me the most!  We generally refer to him as Papa Bill these days, as that is what he has been renamed by all my nieces and nephews. He is a retired Senior Facilities Manager for a large insurance  corporation.

The amount of knowledge my dad has dropped on me over the years could not even be put into a novel, let alone a blog post, so I am giving you just a snippet for today…

My goal is to write these so it takes ANYONE  less than 2 minutes to read, and to absorb the knowledge I am about to gift you.

SO…. this is going to be short, and will follow up with an quick Q and A in another post

The things my dad has told me that have been the most impactful for me.

Part 1: Knowledge bombs from Papa Bill

“Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference!”

When I was 15, I had probably the worst attitude in the world, and thought I knew everything there was to know about life . It took my dad telling me this about 3,547 times before it finally sank in, and made a massive impact for me. Truth is, if you have a good attitude about what life throws at you, you are generally much happier, and much better equipped to adapt to the changing environment around you. 

You can have an opinion about whatever you want, but you don’t have to VOICE that opinion in every situation.

Along with my attitude, I used to be very good at telling everyone my opinion about everything… I tended to do this with authority figures,  that had no reason to have authority over me “in my opinion”. Needless to say, it didn’t go over well in a lot of situations, and this was an extremely important thing for me to learn

Get an Education and focus on lifelong learning! It’s something that cannot be taken away from you. No matter what happens to you, you will always have your education.

And so I have, and continue to do so through this blog and through my daily focus on growth personally and professionally.

Welcome to BOOMER Knowledge

Welcome to BOOMER Knowledge! I have been fiddling with different iterations of this idea for about 5 or 6 years now, and decided it’s finally time to give it a whirl.

The single mission of the company is to document baby boomer’s knowledge as they retire at unprecedented rates, and transfer that knowledge to aspiring leaders in easy to consume formats.

I want to do this differently.

I want to make an impact on your career, and I want to do it without all the fluff.

I am setting out to never send a blog or article titled “6 things not to say in an interview” or “10 things to think about before age 25.” The internet is already full of a million and one of these advice articles, that honestly end up just being confusing. If this sounds good to you, go ahead and click my follow link to join my email list… If you don’t like what I send, then you can delete me as quickly as you added me.

My aim for the content on this site is to:

  1. Document baby boomer’s business knowledge from multiple different industries and locations across the country, and deliver it to you all consistently
  2. Keep the content short, easy to consume,  and simple!
  3. Create content that allows YOU to “Create More Value, Lead More Effectively, and Make More Impact”
  4. Have fun along the way… To me, if you’re not having fun, you’re not doing it right!

I want to inspire leaders to grow faster than their peers, and to sail past the competition when they are in line for a promotion. I want to teach people the skills they need to succeed that are not getting taught to them in school. I want to prevent the tremendous amounts of knowledge our parent’s generation are walking out of our companies with every day from being lost for good.
